PRIORITY PROJECTS OF LGU-SORSOGON CITY
Relocation and Construction of Sorsogon City Abattoir . The slaughterhouse of Sorsogon City is situated in close proximity to Sorsogon Bay where all its wastes are dumped directly, thus contaminating the body of water in its continuous existence. Having no proper waste treatment facility, it has become a contributory factor in the worsening condition of Red Tide. It is therefore perfunctory and already in its pressing stage that the City Government of Sorsogon look for its relocation site and initiative moves for the construction of anew "AA" abattoir. The initial stage of going through the identification of the relocation site has been done in close coordination with the HLURB and the Bureau of Local Government Finance for its funding. Repair / Rehabilitation of the Installation of a Waste Water Treatment Facility. After serving the Local constituents for decades, the Sorsogon City Public Market now needs repair and rehabilitation with the Primary objective of putting up of a Waste Water Treatment Facility that could eventually help reduce the risk of water pollution, specifically Red Tide. The existing Sorsogon City Public Market is located beside Sorsogon Bay, and the usual practice which has been done by the vendors is to throw their wastes directly to the sea. Construction of Seawall and River Control. numerous barangays are located along the coastlines of the city, thus, the need to construct a seawall that could safeguard the constituents from the sudden surge of the sea is important. In case of flooding, facilities that could help assuage the overflowing of rivers is crucial in protecting the lives of the people. Coastal Resource Management (Red Tide and other water pollutants monitoring, Water Quality Analysis, Fishing Activity Regulation, etc...) Red Tide has time and again affected the livelihood of fisher folks who rely on Sorsogon Bay for their livelihood. This catastrophic event caused much of the local fishermen to suffer the setbacks brought about the Red Tide. Partnership with the Department of Agriculture was undertaken to ensure that Red Tide and Water Quality Analysis will be continuously monitored. Integrated Solid Waste Management. This is an on-going program of the City Government of Sorsogon that started with an intensive information and Education Campaign to the 64 barangays, regarding proper waste segregation and disposal. Alternative ways of waste disposal such as composing is being given emphasis as a vital factor in reducing the volume of garbage being collected daily in every household. Its advantages contributed much to the learning of the constituents on waste disposal. Crop Diversification and Upland Agricultural Development. The City Agriculture has implemented programs that aimed to alleviate incidents of poverty in barangays affected by the predicament. Planting of vegetables and root crops in every household was encouraged by using the extra space they have in their area. Seedlings were provided for free by the City Agriculture's Office to those interested to put up their own vegetable gardens. Construction of Roads, Alley, and Drainage System. Roads, particularly Farm to Market Roads were constructed to provide easy access to Farmers who will be selling their produce in the central business district. Alleys and drainage system were improved and rehabilitated to prevent future flooding that may be caused by heavy rains. |
